Ruby Bridges Escorted

Perhaps the most iconic image of the United Civil Rights movement is Norman Rockwell’s The Problem We All Live With, a portrait of little Ruby Bridges entering William Franz Elementary school on November 14 ,1960, surrounded by four United States Marshalls. Ruby, the only black child chosen to desegregate the school, later said, "Driving up I could see the crowd, but living in New Orleans, I actually thought it was Mardi Gras.”
