Rev. Harry Blake of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Shreveport grew up on a Louisiana plantation. In college, a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech inspired him to work for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Blake went on to become the president of the NAACP's Shreveport Chapter.
