Dutch Morial, a protégé of A.P. Tureaud, had a life of firsts. He was the first black person to graduate from LSU Law School, the first black man to serve in the state legislature since Reconstruction, and New Orleans' first black elected mayor. From 1962-1965, he served as president of the NAACP. Morial's son Marc also served as Mayor of New Orleans.
